Puttin’ on the Ritz: Screening of “Generation Growth”
Stephen Ritz has harnessed the force of nature to grow millions of pounds of vegetables in school-based tower gardens around the world, and in the process he has grown thousands of students and hundreds of communities. Starting in the poorest congressional district in the United States, the South Bronx, Ritz combined simple hydroponic growing technology and an immersive whole-school curriculum – along with his infectious energy and optimism – to dramatically increase attendance, test scores, parental involvement, teacher engagement, graduation rates, career readiness… and access to fresh produce. It has been a revelation. “The Green Bronx Machine” is now reaching more than 60,000 students in 550 sites from New York to Denver to Dubai, and has been named one of the Top 100 Education Innovation Programs in the world. In the process, Ritz has written a bestselling book, The Power of a Plant; he has met with sheiks, presidents, popes, and — better yet — Oprah; he was a top ten finalist for the Global Teacher Prize; and his edible classroom work has now inspired a remarkable new yet-to-be-released documentary, Generation Growth.
Come meet Stephen, see his tower gardens, and join us for an exclusive screening of Generation Growth. See trailer here: greenbronxmachine.org/generation-growth/
