What You Will Do:
The Jackfruit Company (TJC) is seeking an ambitious, experienced, entrepreneurial, and collaborative food safety & quality assurance professional for the position of Manager/Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance, reporting to the CEO. This role is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for the company’s food safety and quality assurance programs and standards, including product specifications, documentation of processes and certifications, systems to vet prospective new suppliers, and routine product and process reviews for compliance with specifications. This role is essential to TJC’s success and our ability to rapidly scale.
The Manager/Director will oversee all aspects of The Jackfruit Company’s food safety and quality assurance programs and standards. The successful candidate will be confident being the company’s internal expert in food safety and quality, advising business and quality decisions based on scientific, qualitative, and regulatory evidence, and will have strong leadership ability to communicate and implement food safety and quality requirements with external partners. The Manager/Director will be asked to find ways to improve the effectiveness of our existing programs and implement gold standard systems. This individual will be supported by TJC’s expert advisers and contractors, and empowered to create best-in-class processes for our Company.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Leads the documentation and enhancement of the company’s food safety and quality management systems in partnership with internal team members, key partners, and advisers
Develops and manages internal food safety and quality assurance document systems, including but not limited to product specifications, process flowcharts, and manufacturer certifications, in compliance with FSMA and FSVP regulations and requirements
Provides strategic direction and guidance for the implementation and adherence of all quality programs at external manufacturing sites, warehouses, and raw material suppliers
Partners with expert contractors to audit current and prospective new manufacturing partners and ensure implementation of corrective actions and continued compliance Manages and reviews raw material and supplier review programs with manufacturing partners, and assesses ingredients and packaging to ensure intended use meets TJC’s standards
Works closely with the product development team to ensure food safety requirements and quality standards are incorporated into the development process.
Provides support during plant trials and product runs for product launches and new manufacturer on-boarding, as needed.
Works closely with fruit sourcing team to ensure food safety & quality requirements are implemented at the farm level and across transit to our manufacturing sites
Enhances and implements routine product evaluation programs, including quality scoring, shelf- life evaluations, and tools to monitor product performance against internal performance metrics to drive continuous improvement for current and future product lines
Facilitates company-wide communication to ensure team’s and partners’ knowledge and implementation of food safety guidelines is current and exceeds compliance of federal regulatory guidelines

Who You Are:
Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Food Science, Microbiology or other related field, required. Minimum of 5 years of progressive food industry experience in food safety and quality assurance. Minimum of 2-3 years working in quality systems and management. Certified as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), preferred. (Training available) 15-20% domestic & international travel required. The ideal candidate has previous experience developing, communicating, and implementing food safety and quality programs internally and with external manufacturing partners. S/he should enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and thrive on cross-functional collaboration.
