Product Development Manager

Fresca Foods

The Product Development Manager is responsible for the development and documentation of new product formulas and processes, supporting internal and external client needs, and managing projects to budget and timelines.

Essential Functions
– Develops and documents new product formulas and processes based on market and client requirements
– Works closely with Fresca clients and partners to translate their ideas into new products
– Presents new concept iterations to clients and incorporates feedback
– Works closely with Product Development department members to manage the R&D new product launch process including benchtop testing, line trials and official launches
– Manages multiple ingredient, quality, labeling, equipment, process, documentation, and analytical responsibilities for trials and launches
– Conducts line trials in collaboration with Operations and Quality Departments to test and transition new products into full scale production
– Works closely with the department members to maintain the R&D product inventory
– Develops, documents, and trains production teams on quality specifications of new products in collaboration with Operations and Food Safety & Quality Departments
– Interfaces with customers on regular project meetings and during customer visits
– Works closely with Commercialization team to create project timelines, milestones, and deliverables
– Works with external ingredient vendors to source new ingredients and stays up-to-date on ingredient trends and availability
– Responsible for maintaining a food safe work environment, taking action to stop any identified unsafe behavior, and notifying the production supervisor, assistant supervisor, or lead on duty of any unsafe conditions
– Other duties as assigned

Skills & Knowledge
-Demonstrable culinary experience and instincts
-Ability to utilize models to develop costed out formulas Strong quantitative and MS Excel skills
-Skilled communicator who can effectively collaborate with a wide variety of people at all levels of the company
-Demonstrated aptitude for developing plans and completing tasks to project deadlines
-Ability to prioritize multiple projects

Education & Experience
-Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or Culinary degree preferred
-5+ years of food production experience, including familiarity with production equipment
-Previous R&D experience at a medium to large food company preferred
-Experience commercializing packaged food products from bench top to full scale production
-Experience sourcing ingredients and working with suppliers
-Experience working with regulatory agencies
-Previous experience with formula nutritional value analysis is a plus
